After numerous discussions with Tamara Berry of St. Patrick’s Mastiffs and others knowledgeable with the breed, we determined that we had a stellar example of the Mastiff breed, thus our decision to breed Luma. The process of making this determination was multi-layered. It entailed extensive medical testing on Luma, assessment of her personality and ability to handle varied situations, and progress towards earning a show championship. Once the decision was made to breed Luma the next step was to determine the best possible stud for her. This process was lengthy and entailed assessing numerous males throughout the country. With much feedback from Tamara and others we narrowed our list down to about five prospective males.

We knew that we wanted to build upon Luma’s great structure and type. We also wanted to see if we could strive to improve on her rear angulation and pigment. Luma’s hips tested out as OFA “Excellent” and she moves great, but she is a bit straight in the rear and we hope her puppies will prove to have better angulation. We also felt it would be nice if Luma had more dark pigment and all black nails. She has just a tad of white on her chest, dark but not real dark ears, and a couple of her front nails are white.

With these things in mind, numerous contacts with stud owners and much thought we finally determined that Reggie would be the best match for her. Reggie is Luma’s uncle, on her sire’s side, and we believe this line breeding will allow for us to lock in the overall type and structure that we love so much about both dogs. Reggie's nice angulation and dark pigment will also allows us to address the areas we hope to improve upon. Reggie is a proven brindle male stud that resides in Wisconsin. Reggie lives and is loved by Tara, Kent, their two young children and his Bulldog buddy. Reggie is about 30 inches at the withers and weighs about 220 pounds. He possesses wonderful structure, a great personality, and moves very smoothly. Reggie has had extensive health testing done as well and was found to be in impeccably good health.

We are very excited and proud to be able to arrange for this breeding. We want to thank Tamara Berry for breeding both Reggie and Luma, for all her assistance and advice throughout this planning process, and for connecting us with Tara and Kent.
